From San Ysidro Trolley stop to Taxi Stand at Border:
Get off the trolley at the end of the line in San Ysidro, follow the crowd Westward,
over the footbridge attached to the Immigration & Customs Building. The footbridge
passes over interstate 5 and you can look to your right from the top of the bridge
and see the line of cars waiting to enter Mexico; on your left you will see an even
longer line of cars waiting to exit Mexico. As the ramp descends, it loops
around so you are facing East. When you reach street level again, turn right (south) and
go through the turnstiles and you're in Mexico! Keep walking in a straight line southerly,
walk through another turnstile and when you exit you will be close to a cluster of
taxicab vendors and will see a large yellow sign, "Taxis and Buses."
To Pueblo Amigo Shopping Center from Taxi Stand:
From the taxi stand you want to follow the blue signs to Hotel Pueblo
Amigo. Keep walking in a south-easterly direction and get on the
sidewalk to the right of tourist information
office. Walk underneath the "Welcome Bienvenido" sign. Keep walking
south. Go under a double vehicular overpass. Walk 1 short block.
Across the street to your left you will see Irises painted on
a cement wall. The big green signs that say "Ave. Paseo Tijuana"
and "San Diego - Race book" are your indication to cross the small
street that curves off to the right (west). You go to the left
to cross that street and walk under another double vehicular overpass.
It has a Mexican folk art mural painted on the walls. When you
exit, you will be several feet from Juventud Oriente and Centenario.
Keep walking southeast, crossing a small street. You will come
to a cross street, Alfonso Reyes. To your right is the Pueblo
Amigo Shopping center.
Side Trip-Cat
An interesting side trip is to go behind the Hotel Pueblo Amigo
Inn. Over by the little garage-typed building there are peacocks,
lots of rabbits and roosters available for viewing in a separate
cage. There used to be some beautiful mountian lions in a cage
behind the Inn, but it appears they've been STOLEN (year 2003);
they are gone and the cage bars have been broken.
